Frequently Asked

Questions

Why the focus on TTRPGs?

We’ve loved tabletop gaming since we started playing Dungeons & Dragons in 2010 and learned how flexible and imaginative TTRPGs can be. It’s no wonder that gaming has created one of the most diverse and fastest growing communities out there, and that’s right where Dungeon Depths fits in: wherever we can push for more inclusivity and representation in the things we love.

Can I get one of your designs on a different apparel item?

Of course! Feel free to reach out to us via our contact page about any apparel items you’d like to see!

Do you charge more for larger sizes?

Never! Our XL-5XL sizes will always cost the same as every other size.

What’s Roll for Representation?

Roll for Representation is one of our apparel lines (est. 2019) which highlights the presence of various marginalized groups in the tabletop gaming space. For each purchase of an item in the line, we make a donation to a charity that furthers activism on the behalf of the respective group— and we never keep any profit from items involving a group to which we do not ourselves belong. Check out individual listings for details!

What are these charity auctions I keep hearing about?

We host regular charity auctions on our Instagram page. For a small donation (usually around $5) made directly to the featured charity, you will be entered into a giveaway for a prize we’ll provide. If you wish to donate more than the minimum, you will be given multiple entries in accordance with your donation amount.

Past prizes have included dice sets and jumbo d20s.

Past charities have included With Ukraine, the National Center for Transgender Equality, Planned Parenthood, and NARAL.

If you have an idea for a charity we could feature in one of our upcoming raffles, contact us and let us know!

When/Why did you start making dice?

We started making dice way back in 2018, before sharp-edged dice or alternate d4 shapes were a twinkle in any dicemaker’s eye, and the fledgling dicemaking community was still making molds of whatever round-edged factory-made sets we had in our collections. We started out because we wanted the ability to design our own dice and to make them as gifts for friends, but since then we’ve loved watching the dicemaking community flourish.

Why do you call your dice “handmade?”

Whereas many players’ first sets of polyhedral dice are made in a factory, our dice are made in house, by hand, every step of the way. We model our dice masters in a 3D rendering software, print them on our own Anycubic Photon 3D printer, polish them, and make molds of them. Then we use those molds to pour the sets of resin dice that you’ll see in our shop after we’ve sanded, polished, and inked them. It takes a long time and a lot of work to produce each set, but it’s a labor of love!

How much do your dice cost?

A 7-piece, sharp-edged dice set starts at $95USD, but prices will vary for certain styles and inclusions due to any extra time and labor required. Single d20s start at $25, jumbo d20s at $35, and raw (unfinished) sets at $40. Partial sets vary depending on the number of dice in the set.

How can I buy a set of your dice?

Our dice are available for purchase through our shop updates, but they tend to go fast! To stay in the loop about when new dice will drop, you can follow us on Instagram or Twitter @dungeondepths— or just click the social buttons at the top of the page!

You can also commission dice from us if you are subscribed to our Patreon page at the Roll for Initiative or Loot the Room tiers. As a patron, you’ll also have early access to any dice drops in our store, and access to auctions held through our Patreon Discord server!

How much does a dice commission cost?

A custom 7-piece, sharp-edged dice set starts at $120USD. 9-piece sets (including an extra d20 and d2 coin) start at $140. Single d20s start at $30, all other dice start at $15.

Prices will vary based on the cost of any inclusions or extra dice that might be requested. For example, adding blanks with decals to a set is +$25 to the total, and adding liquid cores is +$10 per individual die.

How long does it take for you to complete a commissioned set?

This varies depending on a number of different factors, such as how many dice are in the set, how long it takes to acquire any inclusion materials, etc. Typically, we hold ourselves to a timeline of 1-2 weeks, once testers have been approved and the commission has been paid for.

Why do handmade dice cost so much?

Our dice are priced to accommodate a living wage for the time and labor spent pouring and finishing each set. This wage also considers the time, effort, and money spent learning the necessary skills and collecting the appropriate materials to produce a high quality product. We’ve been making dice for almost 4 years, and have spent that time honing our craft to ensure that we are able to make our dice as affordable as we can without sacrificing quality.

We understand that our prices may mean that our dice are a luxury item that requires budgeting and saving to afford, and that’s alright! We’re always honored to have your support, whether that means you buy something from every drop or cheer us on with likes and comments on social media. It means the world that you like our work!

Are handmade dice balanced?

Yes! With the exception of sets with heavy (ie. stone or metal) inclusions, handmade dice are just as evenly balanced as factory-made sets, if not more so!
